A new study out this past week shows that screen time for kids under age two has more than doubled over the past 20 years, and one of the more surprising takeaways is that despite the rise of smartphones and tablets, time spent in front of the TV is actually the top driver of the increase. Kids (literally-toddlers) are watching TV for 2.5 hours/day (!), up from just half an hour in 1997. Pediatricians are of course concerned since excessive screen time is linked to delays in cognitive, verbal and social growth, as well increased risk of obesity and impaired sleep.
