FLU ACTIVITY PICKS UP

Will your holiday travels take you to New York? New Jersey? South Carolina? Virginia? Some other… flu zone? The flu season, which got off to a late start this year, is now officially here, and activity is starting to ramp up in many states across the U.S. It’s getting particularly bad in Georgia, which the CDC says is currently the “sickest state” in the country.

MORE PAIN AHEAD FOR J&J

Johnson & Johnson, coming off one of its most challenging years ever, is bracing for what could be an even worse year. In 2019, the world’s largest maker of healthcare products, is scheduled to face almost three times as many trials over its once-beloved and best-known, but now highly controversial baby powder. NoPo says – asbestos or no asbestos, play it safe and just stop using it .. and maybe sell the stock, which is already down about 10% year-to-date.

‘LET ME BE FRANK’???

Whether you like Kevin Spacey or not, you have to admit…the House of Cards-inspired ‘Let Me Be Frank’ video he posted on Christmas Eve is downright creepy. Manipulative, too, since it plays as commentary on the more than 30 allegations of sexual misconduct against him, and appears to be targeted specifically toward the kid he was just charged with sexually groping on Nantucket a few years ago. Spacey, who has not been seen in public in over a year, is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7th in a Massachusetts court.

RECORD YEAR AT BOX OFFICE

It’s been a year for the history books…and we’ve still got one more weekend to go! The latest numbers show that box office revenue in 2018 hit an all-time high of $11.383 billion, surpassing the previous record of $11.382 billion set in 2016 (and erasing 2017’s flop). Disney’s trio of superhero action flicks, which we didn’t like but everyone else apparently did, helped drive sales, as did Aquaman, which opened to $67.4 million at the box office, and made a big splash over Christmas. Also bumping the numbers up, but to a much lesser degree: Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee.
